This autumn, Maria Sole Ferragamo is the guest curator of Sotheby’s The Luxury Edit, a sale series spanning London, New York, Paris and Milan. As a guest curator, jewellery designer-trained architect Maria Sole Ferragamo will be casting her aesthete eye on exceptional items from the world of watches, jewels, sneakers, handbags, wine and spirits to be offered across a series of sales in London, New York, Paris and Milan from September to October, as well as pieces from the Sotheby’s Buy Now platform.
As part of the project, SO-LE STUDIO will also be creating a limited series of unique pieces for each of the city in which Sotheby’s is hosting a Luxury Edit auction sale. Those new creations are inspired by architectural masterpieces from each city. "All of the pieces are made with upcycled leather I found in factories around Tuscany, they play with illusion and distortion, looking heavy and cold, yet revealing their warmth and light when worn. Creating this collection allowed me to implement new techniques together with our craftsmen. Their construction was challenging, and it took many iterations to obtain the effortless balance of a clean and precise design."
The Fondation Ear Cuff: a one-piece ear cuff that hugs the entire ear pavilion. "I took the silhouettes of the different shells that compose Gehry’s architecture and let them interact in harmony, playing around the ear pavilion."
The Vessel Earrings: a pair of clip-on earrings that embrace your ear lobe and frame your gaze."Here the geometry of the building is translated into a surface that allowed me to play with layers and colours."
The Great Cuff: a structured, voluminous, and dramatic cuff that reflects the curves and the patterns of the Great Hall glass sheltering. It’s a statement piece, yet very clean and delicate in its lines.
